Masked balls?

My cousin's quince is going to be a masked ball theme. her dress will probably be white, while me and my other cousin (we're special) are going to have pink, and the rest of the girl court will be Red (maroonish?). So we need help on what the guys are wearing. And masks. We want the kind that is a string or ribbion around your head to hold it, but the the stick ones seem really elegant.





and any ideas on how to make Hall spectuacular. It was just be a regular halls with a few windows.

They are very few and far between. Almost all are private events held close to holidays.





However, there is something similar to what you may be interested in that occurs every July. The Mid-Summer Fantasy Ball is held to raise funds for MS research. Currently, the web site has been taken down but look for it around February when tickets go on sale.

When you go you can rent everything you need. They should have masks, guns, tanks, and paintballs all in one package. They do have a protective vest you can rent but it makes you look sissy. Take more money than you think you would need and if you want to save money bring your own food and drinks. You can also where heavier clothing if you are scared of getting hit. if you are going to a park they will supply the gun,mask, and any ammunition/air you will need iv never heard of anyone providing clothing...i suggest wearing something a lil bulky can soften the blow...the paint shouldnt stain although it has done so to me on occasion..hope this helps....
they will provide you with a gun rental, mask, and air or c02 depending on what they're using. wear some clothes you don't mind getting dirty.

I don't know what your definition of masked ball is, but at the court of Henry VIII, he and his mates would get dressed up as pirates or Indians and ';invade'; the ladies' rooms, to the unexpected(yeah, right)horror of the ladies.


As well, masked people danced in a cross between ballet and theatre, called a masque, and took off disguises at midnight, to everyone's unexpected(yeah, right)surprise. This was common right through the 15th and 16th centuries in England.


Birthday celebrations were quite low-key, the big day of the year was your saint's day, until Edward VI abolished the saints when he became a puritan king.(he was only 10 at the time).


In Europe, especially France and Italy, masking was much moire common, but I'm no expert on those customs.

We have a very low budget (like, dollar store is good!), but want to transform my house into an old 'castle', with a color scheme of silver, gold, and jewel tone. The problem is, I have limited space in my basement, where it will maily be, and we are also using my small kitchen and (if my mom allows us) the back deck(this can fit about 5 dancing couples at a time). Any ideas? I've got some, but i need a VERY cheap way to make it look like a castle.

Go to your local deli for finger snacks get some sliced meats chz and crackers. then go to your local hobby lobby or lobby store you can find paints and styrofoam and make your castle. Ideas for cheap finger food:


Deviled eggs (you can make these look very fancy)


Cubed cheese and crackers


Cubed meats (like italian salami)


Fondue pot


Prosciutto wrapped melon slices (can't find prosciutto? Use any decent thin sliced and salted ham)


Cucumber sandwiches (sliced bread with crusts removed, butter or garlic herb spread with hothouse (seedless) cucumber slices) cut into triangles)


Champagne punch (or make with 7-up depending on the age of the participants)


Castle Theme:


Have you thought of paper mache? Cheap to make and paint.


Get cheap plastic swords toys at the dollar store. Make up a couple of broomstick horses and you have a 'joust' contest.


Used stuffed dragon animals for that 'maiden in distress' feel.


Make up a ';tower'; out of cardboard barrels (the kind used to pack dishware for moving) cut in half and fasten together with screws, a glue gun or duct tape. Put a rapunzel barbie doll in the top.
Just paper mashay


And add aluminum foil and then color black


Also bye flash lights from a dollar store and paint the light red and put it by the window to make it look like the window is glowing red. Just like a hounted castle

i guess if it isnt really formal you could wear jeans and a nice tee, and chuck a suit jacket over it. (suit jackets cheap at op shops, etc.

Getting married on Nov. 1 having a Masked Ball what do think of my idea?

Ok heres the idea my dress is red and my girls dresses are black. The groom is wearing a black Tux and the Grooms men are wearing white tuxes. Each of the girls bouquets will have their mask attached to it, that way then at the reception they can use there mask. The place i'm getting married at is a castle that is located Charlevoix, MI. The bridal party will be brought in on horse drawn carriages. My other question is do you think it would be ok to put on the invite that its a formal or semi formal affair and that they should rsvp? I just want this be great after its the last time i'll ever be getting married. Oh and also I was thinking that when everybody comes in for the reception handing them their own Mask after it is a masked ball.Getting married on Nov. 1 having a Masked Ball what do think of my idea?
Absolutely LOVE the idea of the masked ball!!!





I agree with some of the other posters, that I wouldn't put the groomsmen in white for a number of reasons. 1) when you have pictures taken the white of their tuxes will be what draws the eye to them not you and your husband. 2) White tuxes for the groom are questionable in Nov., but not for the guys. Maybe if you were having a spring wedding it wouldn't be so bad, but not Nov. 3) Let's face it, how many men do you know of that can go an entire day in a white suit and still be clean at midnight? - nuff said!





Here's some thoughts:





a) change your color thinking around a bit. Keep yourself in red (LOVE IT!!) and maybe put your bridesmaids in a lighter shade - champagne or a heavy cream and put the guys in the black. This way you keep your scheme just switch it. It'll be a lot easier talking the gals in to a lighter gown than the guys in to light tuxes.





b) I hope you and the maids are in full ballgowns! I think that'll be the most elegant for you.





c) Not sure about putting the gals masks in their bouquets. Is there any other way you can have the masks made accessible to them? Have someone in charge of giving them to the girls before entering the hall. Sometimes flowers can be clumsy to deal with and adding the masks may make it a little more awkward.





d) I would have it listed on your invitations as a 'masked ball' so that your guests are aware of it. Some people don't appreciate the element of surprise the way others do. It will also allow your guests to really get in to the spirit of things. They may want to purchase a mask or they may have something in mind that they could use. It will also give them a better inspiration for clothing.





e) have some 'spare' masks available for those that didn't undertand, forgot or had their mask break or something. I'd have a variety from plain to decorated available.

Trick or Treating is the day before. Most of us pack up our costumes for All Saints Day. With your luck, it'll probably snow in Charlevoix.
1. Are you sure you want your groomsmen in white? Typically no one but the bride gets to wear white at a wedding. Plus, I don't know how a lot of guys would feel about wearing a white tux. AND a white tux isn't very ';masked ball'; feeling. How about the groom wears one color vest under a black tux and the groomsmen wear different colored vest with a black tux as well. Much classier.





2. If you inform people on the invitation that masks will be worn at the reception some people might go out and find elaborate masks and bring their own. They could come up with some REALLY fabulous stuff! Having a bunch of plain or decorative masks would be a great favor idea though since not everyone will go buy one.





4. Make sure the masks are detachable from the bridesmaid bouquets. They don't want to carry their flowers around all evening at the reception. And masks that tie on rather than handheld ones are easier to wear if there is dancing involved.





3. I think a formal affair would be more appropriate for a ';masked ball';-like atmosphere.

As for the formal attire- Just put in the invite that it is black tie. That will get the message out for that.

OH MY GOSH! I was totally thinking of that date yesterday! I think you should have the groom in white and the groomsmen in black, then change the color of your dress to be like a golden yellow and have your bridesmaids wear red... it will look more elegant that way, especially since it will be at a castle. I like the mask idea during the reception, bet definently not during the ceremony. The only flaw I thought of about having a wedding on Nov. 1st is that it is the day after Halloween and some of your guests might be out partying the night before.
People should always RSVP for a wedding, period. Beyond that though everything sounds nice just make sure you try out the masks first especially if they do more than cover the eyes. You need to find ones that are easy to wear so that guests don't keep taking them off to see or breathe easier. And make sure the bridal party isn't in the carriage too long. It's amazing how quickly that people can start to smell like a horse.
When you choose the invitation be sure to choose or design one with a masked bride and groom and the return RSVP cards should have red and black masks with strings entwined on them. It should absolutely be a black tie affair it is in a castle and the venue should entice your guests to dress. I love the idea of masks at the reception and would recommend you make them the place cards for the table assignments. To be perfectly honest, your wedding sounds like something from that MTV show ';My Super Sweet 16';. Themes are for parties, dear. Not weddings. I'm sure you want your guests to have fun at your wedding, but there are other ways to do so. Besides, using a ';masked'; theme makes it look like you have something to hide. it sounds like you put alot of thought into it, and it sounds wonderful, but yes, you should always put rsvp on the invitations, and then maybe when they rsvp, then tell them about the formal dress code...
I think everything is great except that the groomsmen should not be wearing white tuxes! It doesn't go with the rest of what you have described at all. Invitations are supposed to have response cards included for people to use to RSVP so you really wouldn't mention it separately, it's already understood. I think the color scheme is good but the masks is a little over the top.
I love your idea! Original and fun, do include masks for the guests, they should RSVP, so you'll know how many will attend, it will be a huge hit with your guests. All my best to you and your soon to be husband!

OK, here is one idea





Start at center with egg


Surround with bed of cotton balls, tape in place to make ball


Make box or sphere using the straws as the wall material, it does not have to be solid, only a cage


Inside this place loosly wadded up paper to fill it with the egg/cotton in the center. Might need to put some tape to suspend the egg in the center a bit to keep it from settling before you drop it





Finish by filling with the wadded paper balls and seal with additional straws to make a full cage, secure all with tape





you are trying to generate crush zones, being the straws first, then paper, then cotton and hopefully not the egg








Last minute thought, an alt design might use the straws a springs, suspend the egg/cotton ball from some straws by tape, with them being dampening springs. Have green masks with feathers, and sequences and what ever other colors mardi gras is. Have everyone come over your house and make their masks before hand for the ball so all will be different and unique. If not you and a bunch of party helpers can decorate masks but in different ways and styles. Just be creative and gather your closest friends and see what they think. You dont have to spend a fortune on the actual decorations. Guests rember the food, music, and fun that they will have. I had my sweet thirteen (a ball) in my neighbors heated barn. It was goregous. And with all the money I saved from renting a hall I was able to decorate more. I found it reminiscent of the eighties movie The Story of O all the way down to the feathered masks and tuxedos. It is nothing new and the fact that so much was made of it is surprising to me. The only thing I found interesting was the complete lack of bondage in that scene. There was group sex but no S%26amp;M, and yet in the end you know there had to be some because the girl ends up dead. I am thinking that is how she died. But aside from the soundtrack there was nothing special about that section of the movie....What do you think of the masked ball scene in eyes wide shut?
I actually found it kind of creepy. It wasn't sexy, just...creepy.
I thought it was a crazy scene because you got tom cruise's character dressing up in a costume (in which he got from an old russian costume shop owner and his hot but strange daughter earlier that night) which looks really cool, and then you got a mansion full of people who are all fully nude and performing an enormous orgy, and finally, you a big room of people who are performing some kind of ritual where he then notices another strange woman in a costume. definitly one of the craziest and most interesting scenes in the movie.

I am sorry I don't understand the criticism here? Is it superficial (you don't like make-up) or deeper (you don't like game-playing)? Either way, I think you need to realize that women are just like men in that preservation of some mystery about us to the public at large is our perogative. To our intimates, friends, spouses, lovers, children, we can be ourselves and that is what makes those relationships special. I am probably way off base here in my answer, and if so, sorry to waste your time reading this, but your question was kind of hidden, itself. Honestly.

I was going to do red and he was going to do green. We are wearing all black suits and our tie will reflect the color. Do you think those colors are cool? I'd do colors that reflect you--like for example pink with a pink tie or purple. That way people may be able to guess who you are.

If you are a man, you are to complement your date. wear a mask similar in color to hers and your suit/tux/costume.





If you are a lady, now is your chance to find a beautiful renesance dress, or any type from the surrounding era's. you want to look classy (unless it is not a ball but more of a party) and your mask could say something about you. it may be as flashy or as conservative as you like. all you need to do with the mask is have one that covers you eyes or one on a stick. The dres should be formal and a full length gown

If you're into making your mask, they have the plain white ones at most craft stores! You can buy glitter, feathers, paint, etc. to go on it. Google mask ideas and copy one you like, or even come up with your own!! This is also the cheapest way, and it'll come out looking great!!Masquerade ball where to get mask? help?

This would be our first and we were wondering what we should wear. We have a costume shop near by that rents renaissance costumes. Would this be satisfactory??My sister, mother and I might attend a masked ball at a renaissance faire.?
I went to one of these last year (the one in my area begins the first weekend in September and ends the second weekend in October). This was the first time I went, but I ddin't wear anything. I would have liked to have done so, but I did not have time. If I go again this year, I'm going to try to get something to wear.

Renting your Renaissance Costumes would be fine. They may not have masks..........go to your local craft store and buy the plastic Lone Ranger type masks, a small dowel rod, feathers and trims. Take the cord off the mask, cuta couple of slits on one side of the make and slip the dowel rod in for a handle. Glue the feathers and trims as you like. Type in ';Mardi Gras Masks'; and hit your search key, see what pops up for ideas.
you could maybe go to a craft store they have full and half white masks that you can decorate. or you can go to any halloween store near you. i recommend halloween co. it has everything.
